~Memorial Day and the red white & blue! Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving in our military.

~Date night with my Love. We saw Hangover III (watching the Hangover movies in theater when they come out is our tradition!) and had a delicious dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant.

~Ice cold strawberry milk. Mmmmm!

~The perfect Kick off to the first day of June with my little guy in our backyard blowing bubbles, playing kick ball/catch and enjoying DQ S’more Blizzards. ♥

Thank You Lord,

for Your many gracious blessings in my life!

Golf & Doughnuts

For lack of a much more creative tittle, 😉 golf and doughnuts is exactly what a recent evening out consisted of for Mister Mister and I.

We played a round at a pirate themed glow in the dark mini golf course.

Our 3D glasses really made the course pop.

Mister Mister won the game fair and square but I almost gave him a run for his money somewhere around the tenth hole. 😉

Afterwards, we decided to invest the rest of our evening waiting in line at a doughnut shop. Not just any doughnut shop though, the famous Voodoo Doughnuts. It is open 24/7 and it’s iconic Portland. It has also been featured on the travel channel. We’ve wanted to try them for some time but the line has always been outrageously long and we quickly tire of the thought of waiting in it.

It wasn’t any different this time around, there was a double line as usual of people waiting to try the famous doughnuts almost half way around the building. This time though, we decided to commit and wait it out.

It didn’t hurt that is was a cool, almost chilly July 1st evening. The sun was setting beautifully behind the city skyline and there wasn’t a drop of rain to be found. The census of those in line was calm and friendly. All aiding in making the 45 minute wait bearable.

At one point a stretch limo pulled up to the curb and the driver stepped out and cut to the front of the line. When he came back out he had a box of doughnuts in hand. He got back in and drove away as if it were a normal, every day occurence. Portlander’s never cease to amaze me with their “weirdness.” 🙂

The brick siding of the building is covered in glitter and customers are encouraged to leave their marks.

The interior of the shop is as kooky as you would imagine, though all the while still strangely inviting.

All in the good fun that it is, crude humor is up for sale in the form of bumper stickers and even underwear.  The owners are ordained ministers and perform “voodoo’ weddings on site if you feel so inclined.

I don’t know about you but I think I’ll just be sticking to the doughnuts!

Check out some of the flavors, certainly unique!

The doughnuts are displayed for your choosing on carousels.

 Bacon Maple doughnut anyone?

Will you take a look at  that giant sprinkled one on the wall. That’s my favorite kind, the more sprinkles the better!

As silly as you would think we should feel holding up a pink doughnut box in a photo as if we had won a trophy, we actually felt rather accomplished. 😉 In a sense, Voodoo Doughnuts is a right of passage in Portland. One that we could finally say that we had achieved!

Incase you’re wondering, our doughnut selection included; cookies & cream, fruit loops, toasted coconut, sprinkled of course and a voodoo doll doughnut its self. Complete with raspberry “blood” filling.

Like I said yes, a rather creepy gimmick and certainly not somewhere I plan to frequent but it was fun to take part in the novelty that surrounds the place. Now, the next time we see it featured on tv we can say… been there, done that! 🙂

I’m making progress on my Year Of Lovely Things list!

 Two more check marks…

Play mini golf! & Visit Voodoo Doughnuts!

~Mister Mister has a new work schedule for the summer. It works out perfectly for our family. We are so excited that it allows for more time together and so many more memories to be made!

~Setting up Lovey’s pool in the back yard and having a blast in it with him.

~Mini golf and Voodoo doughnuts date night with Mister Mister. We had a wonderful time.

~Catching up with old friends. Sharing memories of the good old days and of simpler times. Memories that we will never be forgotten and that will always bring smiles to our faces.

Counting My blessings On A Sunday Afternoon

is where I reflect on a few of the many blessing and special moments in my life at the end of every week♥

This week I am especially thankful for:

~Somehow Mister Mister and I  was fortunate enough to squeeze two dates in this month. We had lunch at Olive Garden  and saw Hangover 2 this afternoon. 🙂

~When we dropped Lovey off at Mister Mister’s mom’s house while we went out he was so full of hugs and lovins for his Nana and Papa, it was really sweet.

~Lovey seems to have a new funny saying added to his vocabulary every week. This week it’s “You know what I mean?!” while he’s holding out his hand and tilting his head with a questioning look on his face. So very funny! 🙂

~Tomarrow is memorial Day and I want to  say thank you to all those who have fought, are actively fighting and who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. You all truly are heroes!

Thank You Lord, for Your many gracious blessings in my life, amen.

May Date!

Back in December Mister Mister and I made a pact that we would set aside time every month for just the two of us.

The plan was that we would go on a date with a new activity each month, enjoy one another’s company and reconnect like all couples need to do, especially those of us with children!

So in January I made regular date night one of the things on my list of

 Year Of Lovely Things

Well nearly the first half of the year has came and went so quickly.

Mister Mister has been very busy at work and the days that he is home he allocates his time to catching up on the everyday things that seem to get pushed to the side like mowing the yard, changing light bulbs that are too high up for me to reach and of course taking a nap, can’t forget about the all important nap! 😉

Last week though, Mister Mister had the week off from work.

It was a wonderful week to have off,  falling in between two weeks of nothing but rain, it was sunny and warm and perfect.

So we took advantage of that time and did a lot of fun things as a family and finally went on one of our dates, our May date. 🙂

We decided to do something we had never did together before and went bowling!

Things sort of kind of started out in my favor with a spare, yea that’s right I know bowling lingo! 😉

But soon my wrists became tired and my ball found its way into the gutter time and time again.

I believe the ending score was 117 to 64.

I warned Mister Mister that next time I will not hold back so he better beware! 😉

Like our fancy shoes?! 😀

Afterwards we went out to dinner at On The Border. Not the most authentic mexican food but I prefer “gringo” style Mexican cuisine anyway. I love me some Taco Bell! haha

The food was great. The salsa was not quite as good as the kind back home in the South West at my favorite Mexican restaurant but still very tasty and definitely called for a refill. 🙂

We had a really fun night together.

We held hands and I had the door held for me by my tall, dark and handsome love♥

Chivalry is not dead!

It was reminiscent of  the “good old days,” when we began dating eight years ago.

Wow! Reading that last sentence really makes that time seem like a lifetime ago and in some ways it is.

Certainly some days it feels that way when life gets so busy that we almost begin to forget what that time in our lives was like, just he and I.

That’s why I’m so glad that we have decided to make monthly date night a tradition.

No matter what it is we end up doing I’m just glad that we are doing it together.

Here’s to the first of I hope many, many, many  more dates and opportunities to remember why love is so worth it!
