Valentine Lovelies

A lot of lovely things made up our Valentine’s Day this year.

The Valentine’s I put together to send family back home.

Cupcakes and cake truffles that I made.IMG_3256IMG_3247Untitled-12IMG_3261I LOVE Pinterest and I am guilty of having a board for just about every holiday. ;) These are a few great Valentine ideas that I found there and made my own….

A squeeze it and Hershey’s Kisses – “A squeeze and kisses!!”

I liked this one especially since I couldn’t be there to give out real ones. IMG_3258These were fun to put together for my mom and little sister. I picked up a couple of pairs of cozy Valentine socks at Target then packaged them up.IMG_3268I made a special Valentine’s breakfast for the three of us. Strawberry smoothies, toast, strawberries and sausage stuffed heart shaped pancakes.IMG_3284Untitled-13I ♥ YOU toast!IMG_3290Lovey chose race car Valentines. He picked a specific car for each one of his Valentines and signed his own name like such a big boy.dfedMister Mister and I gave Lovey froggy Valentine goodies. They reminded us of right after he was born, when he had the little froggy legs that newborns do.Untitled-14He’s still our sweet, little froggy.

That evening we took Mister Mister’s mom flowers and spent some time with her.

They mean so much. ♥

Ducky Baby Shower

Last month I was asked to cater the desserts for a family friend’s baby shower. She was having her first child, a little girl and the shower theme was ducky with a pink twist! Cake and cookies both were cherry vanilla flavored as requested by the mommy to be.knkjI made six dozen handcrafted chocolate duckies with pink bows on their heads to top the cupcakes.jnbSplish-splash rubber duckies in the bubble bath!mknjAn 8 inch double round cake for the family to cut.

Congratulations to the family on the arrival of your sweet, little chick! ;)

German Chocolate Goodness

It’s that time of year again, when I bake my Dad up some German Chocolate goodness for his birthday.

Remember the German Chocolate cookies and German Chocolate truffles that I made for his past birthdays?!

I love this tradition between us and I always look forward to brainstorming a new German Chocolate recipe for him.

This year I made him… drum roll please! ;)

German Chocolate brownies.

Fudgy brownies with chopped pecans throughout and topped with German Chocolate frosting, a chocolate drizzle, toasted coconut, sprinkled with more chopped pecans and a whole pecan in the center of each one.

After making the brownies, I found myself on a German Chocolate kick, so for good measure ;) I made him a half-dozen German Chocolate cupcakes as well.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

I love you so much!

Celebrating Differences

“I know there is strength in the differences between us. I know there is comfort where we overlap.”

My little sister’s birthday is this week. This year she is really into the colors pink and black and ”rock & roll/punk” skulls. I knew I wanted the birthday package I sent her to incorporate all three. Although skulls are not really my thing at all ,I knew if I gave them a girly twist I might actually not mind them as much like them!

I love how her gifts ended up looking with the bright pink and black ribbon bows I made for them. The little skull purse served two purposes, it was so cute it didn’t need wrapping and it doubled as wrapping for another gift.

I made a Happy Birthday sign and put it into a black frame without the glass to sit out on her birthday for friends and family to write wishes that she could keep forever. Keeping with the color theme, girls sign with a pink sharpie and boys with a black. Of course Mister Mister, Lovey and I wrote her birthday love at the top before sending it her way!

Normally I make birthday cookies but this year I decided to make birthday cupcakes instead and I’m glad I did because I knew she would love these.

Chocolate fudge cake with a chocolate drizzle center and chocolate buttercream frosting. I covered them with fondant to keep the frosting in tact during travel and to give a clean canvas for the icing skulls. As I said, skulls really do not interest me, in all honesty they actually creep me out! Once I added the pink fondant bows though I thought they looked much less creepy ;) more like happier, friendlier little skulls which is definitely what I was going for!

I placed each one in a half sized clear solo cup, dropped it into a clear bag and tied with more pink and black ribbon. All aiding in their safe travel and making each guest feel a little extra special with their own individual cupcake.

Oh, little sister how very different we are in so many ways! :)

In all the ways that truly count though we always meet on common ground.

 I will always encourage you.

I will always believe in you.

I will always stand by you.

I will always celebrate our differences and try to use them to bring us closer together rather than apart.

Above all else I will always love you.

Sisters are for always.

Happy Birthday little sister. ♥

Super Bowl Menu

Super Bowl is upon once again!

Although Mister Mister has to work during the big game today, I made him some game day inspired snacks to take to work and share with all the guys so that they still feel like they are part of the football action!

I made “football cupcakes.” I free hand piped melted chocolate into the shape of mini footballs to add a 3D feel to them.

Remember the brown sugar and bacon wrapped sausages that always receive rave reviews? I didn’t have to ask Mister Mister twice if he wanted me to make a batch of those to take along as well. ;)

What are some of your favorite Superbowl recipes?

~*Cupcake Lovely*~ Cherry Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

January’s ~*Cupcake Lovely*~

Cherry Chocolate Chip Caupcakes!

Cherry frosting

1 cup maraschino cherries
1/3 cup butter at room temperature
2 cups confectioners sugar
3 tablespoons half-and-half
Mix all ingredients except cherries at LOW. Add cherries and mix at MEDIUM-LOW until blended. Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips!
I added some of the cherry juice to enhance the flavor and color of the frosting which it did but it also thinned it more than I would have liked.  So add or don’t add at your own discretion. :)

~*Cupcake Lovely*~Caramel Drizzled Pretzel Cupcakes

I recently saw a photo of a cupcake topped with bits of pretzel. I thought it looked tasty but there was no recipe attached so I tweaked the idea a little and made it my own.
